Happy Columbus | Indigenous Day —

His crew was fed up. Famished. Exhausted. Day after day without spotting land made them lose trust in Columbus. Half his crew mutinied.

He asked for 3 more days of faith.

Considered a technically brilliant navigator and not so hot with people, Columbus had spotted signs in the water that land was approaching.

On the 3rd day, Friday, October 12th, 1492, Christopher and his remaining men came on shore. He thought he was in Asia. He had landed on an island in the Caribbean.

Columbus used ancient tools to watch the stars and navigate. Could you do that? Me either. Pretty adventurous and brave, I reckon. Definitely not “playing it safe.”

Some states are changing the name of today’s holiday. Whatever your view, Columbus’ intrepid journeys helped create the world we’re living in now.
