on my skin
delight alighting

soul possessing

grassroots

going to my grassroots
what fears can i lay down
that no longer need
to fill my space
made clear for rest notes
to spin their song-filled ways
into long, hot summer days
where rain is not sadness
but cooling off
from layers that can be shed
so skin can feel
what’s simple and real

i am smeared with love and smearing it everywhere i go.

it’s not a choice. it’s a revelation, a fact, an embarrassing gorgeous thrill,
a new way of being.

it’s not up for debate.

it comes out of every pore of my body, every thought i have,
everything i understand.

take it or leave it. it doesn’t care.

it’s all powerful, all knowing, all seeing, all forgiving.

while pain shared is halved

I feel you ripple through me

joy with you triples

life balls

your bitter bite emits sweet savor
your cold wind blows warm glow
your distraction clears room to seek
your fear unearths courage

turn the balls of life’s experience

disdain eases to attention,
to curiosity, then willingness,
to abandon, joy, love and freedom.

turn another life ball
confusion creeps to refusal, to stubbornness,
resistance, lack, distraction,
to maybe, why not, possibility,
attempt, interest, refinement, expertise.

you and i are everything.
and still specific.

so now. i can forgive you. i can forgive me.
i can love you.

like

like water on a desert island
like lotion on a sunburn
like sleep after an all-nighter
like spaghetti after a fast
like chocolate cake and ice cream (after a diet)
like real whipped cream after the cheap stuff
like the first bite of steaming popovers at brunch
like diving in fresh pillows after a long day
like mint and ice cubes in 95º weather
like the first sip of a superior wine
like the moon rippling on a patent leather river
like the brush of soft fur on my skin
like the burn of hard liquor going through me
like a sea of possibilities
is kissing you

red

red is blatant.
red wants to turn into fuchsia
and be hot and shy at the same time.
red is a BIG woman.
red is juice dripping down chins and fingers
and slurping laughing crying jumping
rude beyond belief.
red is sandwiched between
control and patience,
light and dark.
red burns through my heart
and bursts into love for everyone
big and messy and free.

last night so softly as i slept
and thought that i was dreaming
in my bed silently you crept
and wound around my seeming

deep and deep in dreams as i went
down in my self and below
oceans’ comfort, visions and scent
thrashed my body and pillow

between the worlds of here and there
flowed ribbons laced with your air
encircling downtime laissez-faire
bright land with terrain so rare

so on we went who knows how long
locked in the grip of our trance
this resting fitful new hit song
rocked by the wave of our dance

at day awake calm air lies still
fresh spirit aware and glad
patient yet with fever until
turbulent night can be had

take me at your leisure
ravish my exuberance
languish in this pleasure

you’ve here arrived inside my head
and i am yours to ponder
now cross the path where passion led
that’s ever winding fonder

no rush at all should cause concern
though your own heart does race
ideas of you make my skin burn
entranced at every pace

then inside you when we align
come find me here and smiling
be quick or slow yet not confined

thoughts of you come tumbling down
jostle my balance all around town
carrying smiles with secret allure
places within me starting to purr

wondering wondrousness who might you be
thrilled with the fact that your form is a he
yearning to know and to see and to touch
wanting to give, to receive and be much

random encounter with careful laid plans
brings to my entry this beautiful man
welcome adventure is coming to pass
spilling lush alchemy into my glass

your molten brew entangles my being
closing my eyes yet truly now seeing
simple gifts of touch and time
words fall short; this part’s sublime

now my thoughts are laced with you
strewn with your DNA
gladly disheveled and paced with you
woven and wrapped your way

my focus averted in fits and starts
broken with stabs of your being
i wander amidst small daily tasks
and drink in these moments of feeling

no notes of sweet sorrow to read and reread
no beeps in my mail to delete
just awful cold silence that lingers and singes
sings truth of lost hopes now replete

the thought of you has worn a groove
your touch has graced my heart
with joy that pain cannot remove
until the day we part
